Going through the projects that I did for 337 last semester, one of my favorites (at least in terms of how it turned out) was the environmental portrait assignment. I was in Charleston almost every weekend for that semester so I took pictures at Sugar, a really pretty amazing (if a little too pricey for my then-unemployed self) bakery down the street from where I would stay downtown. The colors of the store and the meticulously arranged baked goods were just too easy to photograph- the work was already done for me. There was even a nice contrast of warm artificial light and cool natural sunlight coming through the huge windows.
Then I took pictures of one of the newest preachers at the church I used to go to, St. Philips. Again, his corny but very warm personality basically took the pictures for me. Note the Birkenstocks with socks.
It’s been nice to get back to Charleston for a photo project even if driving back and forth constantly can get irritating. As far as I’m concerned, there aren’t many cities in the US that are more photogenic than downtown.
Also, it’s my birthday today… woo!
